Fantasy vs Reality
During this lecture we shall have a look at different weapons which are seen being used in entertainment like in movies, books and games and compare them to their historical equivalents. We shall have a look at certain preconceptions and misunderstandings of how certain weapons were really use and at the same time show techniques based of historical documentation.
This lecture is an educational one and by demonstrating the realism of historical techniques hopes to maybe inspire writers, artists and stunt performers to better and enrich their knowledge and their art.
Andrei Xuereb is a qualified master of arms and founder of the Malta Historical Fencing Association, a group dedicated to the study and practice of historical European martial arts with swords and other edged weapons. In the past he also practiced and taught stage fighting for theatre and film and also works as designer, illustrator and storyboard artist.
